Preface

I am assuming you've read the previous articles on the ego and tulpa which introduces some important concepts. This article will get you started with tulpamancy and mind palace meditations.

Minimalistic Mind Palace

This form of meditation relies on visualization, and while a black or white void will do the job, let's go one step further. Let us create a sitting room. This room has a square floorplan 20 feet on each side. It features two chairs facing one another with a coffee table between them. I will defer to your aesthetic preferences for the style of the room's furnishings. You may wish for there to be overhead lighting, or perhaps a sunroof or windows. Please make this space simple and comfortable. Imagining it should be a comfy and effortless experience. You may wish to familiarize the space by briefly imagining viewing it from inside at various angles and various positions. Imagine viewing the room from the perspective of a camera moving through the room.

Load your Avatar

Your avatar is your ego's body inside the imaginary world of the mind palace. It is "you". It may look identical to you in real life, or it may look any way that makes you feel comfortable. It should be easy and comfortable to imagine yourself this way. Once you have created the archetypal form of your avatar, we will bring it into the mind palace. Please find a quiet space where you may sit or lay, closing your eyes without distractions or interruptions for a bit. You may wish to play some form of non-intrusive meditation music, or absolute silence may work best. (Here's some leo, crystal bowl, and sith flavors of meditation music.) There's a part of your mind that is rational and knows what you are about to do is all imagination. I should continue to know it's in a simulation. There's another part of the mind, the part that feels emotions for fictional characters, flinches when you view a video where a ball hits the camera, and yawns when other people around you yawn. This meditation will tap into this part of the mind and begin to guide it, giving you access to your unconscious. If you succeed, this part of the mind will experience this meditation vividly as if it is a dream.

Perform a technique to relax your mind. This might look like qabbalistic cross if you know it, or it might look like imagining a 3 that very gradually becomes a 2, and only after a while longer becomes a 1. You might want to focus on the feelings in your extremities, or focus on your breathing, or any other techniques that pull you into the present moment. The goal here is to empty your mind so we have space and capacity to work with. Enter a deep state of relaxation before moving to the next step.

This part may feel weird if it's the first time you're doing it. Remember that camera you viewed the room with in the previous section? Make it the eyes of your avatar now. Place your avatar sitting in one of the chairs. At first, just look around the room from where you're sitting. Now look down and see your torso, legs, and arms. Take in their details. Without moving your body in real life, I want you to move an arm, holding your hand out in front of your face. Twist it one way, then the other. Focus on how it feels to move your hand. Press your thumb and forefinger together and focus on the feeling. Continue to do this for a while. Now stand up from the chair and make a lap around the room. Look at the walls and furniture. Reach down and touch the furniture. Does the coffee table feel smooth, or rough to the touch? How does the material of the chair feel when you squeeze its cushions?

You will know you've successfully entered the mind palace when you begin to feel quasi-bodily sensations corresponding with the movement of your avatar. This means some of your unconscious is deeply immersed in the visualization. When you exit this state, there may be a second or two sensation of resuming control of your physical body.

Load a Tulpa

In this article, we're going to load my character, Wrath. Use this process to load in any other characters you want. First we will understand the archetype of our tulpa. here is some art of Wrath. As you can see, she is a fiery lynx woman who stands about seven feet tall. She is butch/masculine/ferocious, gruff/paternal/aggressive, and has a protective/nurturing side as well. She acts quickly and decisively. When you feel you have the archetype in your head, continue on.

Re-enter the mind palace. It should be a bit simpler and a bit less intense on return trips. Once you're loaded in, imagine Wrath sitting in the other chair. Treat her like an NPC in a videogame or TTRPG. Is she getting bored just sitting there? Is she fidgeting with her claws, or maybe pushing the coffee table with her foot? How does she react when you greet her from your chair? Is she still bored, or is she curious about you? Don't put any words in her mouth, but try to interact with her. Get closer, offer a hi five or a hug. Ask her to arm-wrestle, or what kind of music she likes. Depending on how new to this kind of thing, it can be extremely short or take some fiddling. Don't be discouraged if she doesn't do anything at first. Don't reason through any responses she gives, only fire from the hip by answering intuitively.

If you succeed, you will take a formal understanding of the archetype, gain an intuitive understanding, and hook that intuition up to this imaginary entity, or thought form. This tulpa will likely see things differently from you. You might see a situation one way, and she might be able to offer you insight(such as the weaknesses of your opponent, or the option to use aggression or assertiveness). This is a trick to access perspectives your ego might normally not have access to.

Now, let's do a bit of a guided meditation scenario. Wrath throws you a sword and brandishes her own. She strikes a defensive posture and asks you to take your best shot. She won't hurt you, and she'll do her best to keep you from hurting her. However, she will offer a sparring partner and talk through whatever you'd like while sparring. She might knock you on your ass repeatedly at first, until you can learn to match her ferocity and break her defense. Use this scenario to ask her about your own IRL situations, and see what perspective she can lend you.

Summary

We've created a minimal mind palace, loaded your avatar in, and loaded a tulpa in. This uses a lot of mental muscles and may take a good amount of practice to master. I would recommend bringing in additional tulpas. Try to think through the zodiac signs for a character that embodies each one. Having a selection like this will offer you a varied set of perspectives to choose from.
